RIGHT AS RAIN: The newlyweds had time for a quick walk before a downpour forced them to forgo the planned cocktail hour and lawn games. “I don’t think any bride would say that rain on her wedding day is perfect, but it kept all the guests together in one place, and that was a blessing,” says Joyner.

CARRIAGE TOUR: Joyner and her father arrived at the ceremony in an antique horse-drawn carriage that also served as the couple’s “getaway car.”

SHELTER FROM THE STORM: An old schoolhouse served as a dressing room for the groomsmen, many of whom were Bart’s college buddies, while the bridal party prepared in a nearby carriage house.

BRIDAL WHITE: The bride carried a delicate arrangement of veronica, hydrangea, maidenhair fern, Queen Anne’s lace, ranunculus, and lisianthus. “The casual bouquet was just right for the feel and setting of the wedding,” says event planner Kate Badger.

YOU'RE INVITED: Courtney Gunter incorporated the lace pattern from Joyner’s dress into the handmade invitations.

DREAM DATE: “It still gives me chills to think about that day. All the little details came together like magic,” says the bride.

STORM WATCH: Set amidst an oak grove, Joyner and Bart’s wedding ceremony was beset by thunderstorms and tornado warnings. “The horses were stirring, and the thunder was crashing,” says Joyner. “It was ominous and romantic at the same time.”
