Ashley Stuart & Wilder Bullard

August 6, 2012

After arriving to the Holy City in 2007, Ashley, of Springboro, Ohio, heard a rumor that Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church had the best lemonade in town. Deciding she needed to taste it herself, she attended service there one Sunday in 2010. As she went to grab a glass, a man approached and said, “Hi. I’m Wilder. I don’t believe we’ve met yet.” “It was love at first sip,” says Ashley of her first encounter with the Charleston native. Over the following month, the two met for coffee every morning at Metto in Mount Pleasant and spent time strolling the beach and eating at Home Team BBQ on Sullivan’s Island. When Wilder headed north to Washington D.C. to finish graduate school at George Washington University, they dated long distance, until the following summer when Ashley joined him in D.C. One year later, Wilder woke Ashley up around 6:00 a.m. one Saturday morning and popped the question. The proposal was just what she’d wished for, “nothing too fancy, just us being us,” says Ashley, adding that their upcoming nuptials will reflect their personalities, too, with lemons—but of course—as the décor’s prominent theme. The couple will marry at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where they first met, on April 13, 2013.
