Flashback Wedding of the Week

Sonya Woodward & Ricky Richardson; October 10, 2008

Evans Craddock

Mount Pleasant transplants Sonya and Ricky had two requests for their wedding planner Sherry Feguson of Charleston Wedding Design: Keep it small and intimate.

Mount Pleasant transplants Sonya and Ricky had one request for their wedding planner Sherry Feguson of Charleston Wedding Design: Keep their Big Day small (they had a 50 person guest list). So, after hunting all over the Lowcountry for the perfect spot to host their quiet nuptials, they ventured out to Lowndes Grove. “As soon as we drove up, we knew that was it,” Sonya says. Sticking to their classic yet cozy theme, the couple chose a color scheme of ivory and black. Says Sonya, “Lowndes Grove is so naturally stunning, we didn’t want to take away from its beauty with too many decorations.” She draped black linens over the tables, surrounded ivory floral arrangements of hydrangeas and roses with tiny flickering votives, and placed sweet black boxes of pralines on each place setting for guests to carry home. Since Sonya hails from Canada, she wanted to make sure she gave her family an authentic taste of Charleston, so Fish restaurant whipped up traditional Southern dishes, like shrimp and grits, and Sonya’s grandmother’s personal favorite, crab cakes. Though it rained all throughout their wedding day (I hear that’s a sign of good luck), Sonya and Ricky say they wouldn’t have changed a thing. Looking at their photos, we can see why!
