Charlestonians know that the August heat is nothing to mess around with, but that doesn’t keep us from enjoying fabulous function after function smack dab in the middle of it.

Charlotte, North Carolina, couple Anne Winship and Jonathan Ishee shared the same sentiment and worked with Melissa Barton of A Charleston Bride to create a late summer fête with a simple and clean palate of refreshing apple green and icy white that cooled off the hot August afternoon they chose for their wedding. After saying their “I dos” at Trinity United Methodist Church, the pair and their guests strolled to Upper King’s William Aiken House where upon arrival all were given chilled, moist towels for refreshing. Continuing with the pampering, they stepped into a shady haven Melissa had fashioned in the courtyard. Inside a massive tent, she hung wrought iron chandeliers and decorated with lush flower arrangements of white hydrangeas and spotted orchids in white ceramic vases. To bring a bit of green back into the setting’s palette, she wrapped votives in swirled, patterned paper. Let’s hear it for a little Southern hospitality and soothing décor taking the bite out of a balmy summer night!
