So, what do you do after your boyfriend pops the question in front of the oh-so-romantic Arc de Triomphe in Paris? If you’re Kansas City native Rory Welsh (who happens to own the Mount Pleasant event planning company, Jubilation), you say “Yes!” then roll up your sleeves to plan a laidback Charleston affair full of fabulous Lowcountry fare, family and friends, and dancing.
Rory and her now-husband Kristian say the main focus of their wedding weekend was to make sure guests had a good time and that they showed off all that Charleston has to offer. After a waterside ceremony at Patriot’s Point in Mount Pleasant, guests strolled to the tented reception just steps away, where they indulged at an oyster raw bar, and sampled beef tenderloin, shrimp and grits, and more. When they weren’t busy enjoying the cuisine, guests donned flip-flops provided by the bride and groom and danced the night away to the band Two 3 Ways.
The bride’s favorite memory? “We all made it to the dance floor—from my niece who was 10 to my 80-year-old grandmother and everyone in between,” says Rory. “The most rewarding part is hearing everyone say how much fun they had.”
