A year later, Janis and David were on their way to have a picnic on the Battery when David dropped to his knee and popped the question. Says Janis, “It was so romantic and such a huge surprise!” Set to wed, Janis and David went to Cindy Zingerella of Engaging Events to plan their October nuptials at The William Aiken House. The pair exchanged vows under an altar adorned with hydrangea, lilies, pergola, roses, and a few wrought iron lanterns. As a nod to David’s Italian heritage, local vocalist Anne Marie Fairchild performed the Ave Maria and a prayer in Italian. After the ceremony, guests strolled to the reception tent that Engaging Events draped with champagne gold fabric and crystal chandeliers. The tables, covered in autumn orange textured linens, housed tall floral arrangements of lilies and roses, and a table of the couple’s favorite candy, along with a cake decorated with fresh magnolia blooms, eased all the guests’ sweet cravings. Janis’s tip for a stress-free wedding day: “Hire a planner,” she says. “The day of your wedding should be one where you can reflect on your future husband and the joy of having all of your friends and family together.”
