The Carrion Cheer: A Faunistic Tragedy

At the Halsey Institute, journey inside an immersive installation that German-based art duo Böhler & Orendt call a “makeshift transdimensional stopover camp.” Viewers walk through a series of tents, each showcasing an apparition (or a projection on a screen of mist) of an extinct animal—like Steller’s sea cow and the Carolina parakeet—alongside cave painting-like drawings of the creatures’ experiences with humans. Attend the opening reception on May 18 and an Artist Talk the next day. Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, College of Charleston, 161 Calhoun St. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Free. (843) 953-4422, www.halsey.cofc.edu
