VIDEO: Spoleto's Present Laughter Party & Etsy Inspired Lowcountry Artist Market Debut

Ayoka Lucas

Spoleto Season is a tremendous celebration of the arts and of course with the arts comes style! For the May issue of Charleston Magazine, I had the pleasure of interviewing Peter O'Brien, costume designer for Noël Coward's comedy Present Laughter.

However, nothing gave me more joy then to see O'Brien's glamorous 1940's wardrobe come to life on stage with impeccable detail and authentic vintage style! These visions of loveliness included dresses with divine pleating, elegant fitted gowns, beautiful draping, puff shoulders, and elaborate prints in great variety. Looking at the hats and the gloves added to the completion of the outfits is what gave me that extra push over the edge into nostalgic fashion bliss. The Present Laughter party was just as classy! Held at the beautiful Wycliffe house, this celebration was a step back into time from the plumage decor to the vintage Rolls-Royce! Watch the highlights here!

LOWCOUNTRY ARTIST MARKET

Candy Shop Vintage

When Kristen Thompson Gastaldo, GM of the Music Farm, contacted me back in April to tell me about her idea to pull together all of Charleston's Etsy.com vendors for a huge market, the first thing I said was "BRILLIANT!". Last Saturday her vision came to fruition as the first Lowcountry Artist Market presented rows and rows of Etsy sellers all in one venue! It was sweltering hot inside and the perspiration wasn't so chic but it was well worth it to see all of these one-of-a-kind pieces including jewelry, vintage, home decor, baby clothing, and even more! If you missed this amazing market, check out my video blog to see the shopping scene at the Music Farm!

Thank you so much for including a shot of my cards in the video! It was an absolute pleasure to meet you on Saturday, and thanks so much for taking the time to spotlight local artists. Have a great weekend!
