The Party: Local and visting foodies and the movers and shakers of the hospitality world—think James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Nathalie Dupree and co-founder of Charleston’s Bad Bitches, Sarah Adams—gathered on the gorgeous grounds of Lowndes Grove plantation for the Les Dames d’Escoffier International’s (LDEI) sixth annual Autumn Affair. Local restaurants and vendors set up shop, offering guests bites of all manner of fare, from Rio Bertolini’s pasta and gelato to Meathouse Butcher Shop’s fresh charcuterie. Local musicians—saxophonist Kevin Patton, guitarist Ryan Flannery, bassist Greg Massaro, and drummer Brandon Brooks—played jazzy, upbeat tunes all evening while guests perused silent auction items and sipped on glasses of wine from all over the country—more than three dozen varieties were featured! The event benefitted LDEI, a worldwide philanthropic society of ”professional women involved in food, wine, and hospitality, promoting the interests of the members and those who share [their] objective.”
Highlights: Nathalie Dupree lounged on a fuchsia couch set up on the grass next to the event, warmly inviting friends (and fans!) to come chat.
Overheard: ”If you don’t eat those truffle chips paired with the pink bubbly, you’re doing it wrong!”—a guest tasking others to try the tastiest food pairing of the evening, chef Michelle Weaver’s deviled eggs and truffled chips served alongside Veuve Clicquot Rosé Brut
Beneficiary: Les Dames d’Escoffier International
