Wine Under the Oaks
The Charleston Wine + Food Festival partnered with Boone Hall Plantation to present Wine Under the Oaks, an event which benefited The American Red Cross.
Sunday’s beautiful but markedly chilly weather did nothing to dissuade wine aficionados from bundling up and stepping out for the 2011 Charleston Wine + Food Festival poster unveiling at Wine Under the Oaks, an event copresented by Boone Hall Plantation.
The front lawn of the stunning historic plantation home was packed with an enthusiastic crowd of gourmands, who happily flitted between strategically placed heating lamps and wine tasting booths. When not sipping vino or reheating their fingertips, people bid on a silent auction, purchased local goods, or noshed on gourmet bites from Charleston’s finest chefs.
Fleet Landing’s crab and pesto bruschetta was a hit, and more than a few guests snuck back in line second helpings of 82 Queen’s jambalaya. The mouth-watering smell of barbecued meatballs wafted from the Slather Brand Foods booth, which consistently drew a long line of hungry fledgling sommeliers. “Lick your fingers!” the woman behind the table advised. “Someone else will lick them if you don’t.”
The highlight of the afternoon was the unveiling of the winning 2011 Charleston Wine + Food Festival, designed by Seth Deitch. The striking poster was on display along with several honorable mentions in front of a live bluegrass band.
The gorgeous afternoon of wine tasting with friends was the perfect way to wrap up the weekend, and it was a relaxed, mellow crowd that made their way down the oak lined path to their cars.
Wine Under the Oaks was presented by the Charleston Wine + Food Festival and Boone Hall Plantation, and a portion of all proceeds benefited The American Red Cross.
