Charleston residents turned out in droves for Operation Home's fiesta-themed 6th Annual Drum It Up Party at Red Drum Restaurant on Sunday, October 23.

Last year’s Drum It Up Party was quite a success, but this year’s Drum It Up Fiesta was a truly colorful fete. Like Operation Home’s other fundraisers this year, including March’s Gimme Shelter event, the party drew a large, young crowd of supporters to Chef Ben Berryhill’s Red Drum Restaurant in Mount Pleasant.

Mariachis and vibrantly hued flags hailed guests from the parking lot, and partygoers entered the courtyard to find their fellow attendees already staking out spots on the lounge furniture to enjoy the refreshing fall evening.

People scurried from table to table, snatching up the Southwestern-themed bites about as quickly as servers could bring the steaming platters from the kitchen. Chef Berryhill’s miniature quesadillas and nacho bites had even the skinniest of socialites stealthily vying for position, but the chef’s signature chili had most people coming back for seconds. "Someone is going to have to roll me home," one foodie was overheard laughing.

The silent auction gave way to the live auction as the night wore on, and partygoers were happy to give to such a great cause... while munching on mini-donuts with fresh cream.

This was the 6th annual fundraiser for Operation Home, an organization that strives to help people remain in their residences by increasing safety and accessibility. Operation Home has served hundreds of Lowcountry homes, coordinating critical home repairs and providing air conditioners during the summer months and heaters in the winter for low-income residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties.
