Each winter, the Spoleto Festival USA offers patrons and art lovers an opportunity to support the festival while enjoying world class entertainment at their annual auction. Charleston society turned out to the Memminger for an elegant evening, and the popular event venue welcomed guests with brilliant purple lights.

Partygoers mingled and sipped drinks at the cocktail hour, and savory bites from Cru Catering helped whet everyone’s appetites. The tomato and mozzarella fritters and miniature tacos were a huge hit. While making their way about the room, guests had the opportunity to place their bid in the auction on Spoleto’s online auction through strategically placed laptops.

Soon everyone was being ushered in to the main dining area, where purple-draped tables sat with stacks of savory bites for partygoers to enjoy throughout the concert and live auction, which followed the show.

The Charlton Singleton Jazz Ensemble, featuring Festival Jazz Artist Cyrus Chestnut, kicked off an amazing show, and everyone found themselves drawn in as the concert continued. At one point Singleton stopped a song and addressed the crowd, “Hold on, hold on, hold on! I forgot to tell you that this is a sing-along.” Soon the band had the room singing along to “Gimme That Wine”, and guests cheerfully sang out the response, “Unhand that bottle!” throughout the piece. It was definitely a highlight of the evening.

The Spoleto Festival USA is an annual, internationally recognized 17 day festival of the arts which takes place in Charleston, SC. While providing performances of the highest caliber, Spoleto Festival USA maintains a dedication to young artists, a commitment to all forms of the performing arts, a passion for contemporary innovation, and an enthusiasm for providing unusual performance opportunities for established artists.
