Louie's Kids Guest Chef Benefit Dinner at Circa 1886
A happy crowd gathered at Circa 1886 for a duel celebration, one a feast prepared to raise funds for nonprofit Louie’s Kids and the other in honor of the organizations founder Louis Yuhasz on his 50 birthday. Chef Marc Collins and visiting chef Ford Fry of Atlanta’s The Optimist—recently named one of Bon Appetit magazine's Top 10 Best New Restaurants in America 2013—delivered five courses of exceptional cuisine.
Guests enjoyed ricotta agnolotti with sweet corn and Humboldt fog before devouring roasted fish with summer bean panzenella and an “1855” strip steak coated in a local honey demi glace. Dessert, for those with room to enjoy it, was a chocolate cake topped in crisp potato chips, but as Yuhasz shared, such luxury dishes should be enjoyed only as a special treat, not every day. Which brought him back to the heart of his cause—childhood obesity.
Yuhasz shared that when he started the program 12 years ago, sending a group of over-weight children to a weightloss summer camp, the project left a mark on his heart and a commitment to help area kids take back their health. Today, the project has assisted hundreds of children in losing weight, understanding nutritional balance, and gaining the self confidence needed to grow into a healthy adult. The evening's auction featuring an exquisite necklace from Croghan's Jewel Box and a personal in-home dinner prepared by Ford and Collins raised more than $6,000 towards that endevor.
