Competitors put their best foot forward during the second annual Leslie McCravy Memorial Race on Saturday, September 11. Runners gathered bright and early for the 5K run at the Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier on Folly Beach, where they were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of pet lovers and furry friends. The horn sounded loud in the morning air and everyone hit the pavement, with several four-legged athletes racing alongside their human companions.

Less than 16 minutes later, ABC News 4’s meteorologist Neville Miller stepped over the finish line and claimed his second consecutive first place win to wild applause. His fellow runners were not far behind, and human and canine contestants alike finished their race before joining the crowd.

Everyone gradually made their way under the pier for water, energizing snacks, and conversation before the awards ceremony. Proceeds from the event benefited Pet Helpers, a local, private nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing animals, promoting pet adoption, and ending euthanasia of adoptable animals throughout the Lowcountry.

The Leslie McCravy Memorial Race celebrates the life of Leslie McCravy, whose life ended both tragically and unexpectedly in 2007. McCravy is remembered by all as a beautiful, vibrant individual, and the annual event honors her memory.
