Legare Farms Fundraising Event
The Legare Farms Fundraising Event at McCrady’s on February 22 was a foodie’s dream-come-true.
A mass migration of foodies is about to descend on Charleston next week for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, but local gourmands whet their palates and celebrated our local farming community at the Legare Farms Fundraising Event at McCrady’s Restaurant.
Tantalizing aromas wafted down the stairs from the private dining rooms, where guests swarmed various stations manned by some of Charleston’s finest culinarians. Partygoers loaded up on Redneck Ramen from cuisine scene newcomer The Grocery, and Butcher & Bee’s Legare braised pork arepas al pastor had people lining up, forks ready. Guitarist Bill Johnson kept guests entertained as they moved between tables, sampling Chef Jacques Larson’s collard ravioli with ham hock butter. “I’m stuffed,” one foodie declared. “Have you even been to the other room yet?” their companion demanded.
To the surprise of several partygoers, there were in fact two separate rooms teeming with delicious dishes and some of Charleston’s more visible socialites and charitable residents. The ever-generous Beth Rucker could be spotted amongst the crowd, which seemed to cluster around the FIG station for poached Celeste farm eggs with ricotta pudding and mushroom ragout before moving en mass toward Husk’s slow smoked pork BBQ with winter vegetable slaw on buttermilk Benne rolls. Those who managed to save room delighted in Lucca’s crudo of carne with cured egg yolks, but soon blissed-out gourmands could be spotted lounging and mingling at tables or surrendering to their food comas and slowly making their way toward the exit.
The Legare Farms Fundraising Event donated all proceeds to Legare Farms, a local family farm that has been continually in operation since 1725. The Legare Farms Education Foundation strives to raise awareness and educate Lowcountry communities and school children on the rich agricultural heritage of our region and the importance of protecting this legacy. The Legare Farms Fundraising Event was supported by participating restaurants McCrady’s, Husk, Wild Olive, EVO, Butcher & Bee, Charleston Grill, FIG, S.N.O.B., Trattoria Lucca, and The Grocery.
