Julie & Julia

Ida Becker

She's joined the ranks of celebrities whose quixotic fame continues to grow long after death: John Lennon, Elvis, Princess Di--Julia Child. Her life, voracious love of food, and groundbreaking cookbook have been splashed across magazine spreads over the past month in anticipation of Julie & Julia, the summer's most delicious blockbuster, in which actors Meryl Streep and Amy Adams respectively depict the famous chef and a 20-something woman who cooked her way through Child's book for a yearlong culinary experiment she chronicles in a blog.

On Monday night, the local chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier hosted a special screening of the gustatory triumph at the Terrace. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited Crisis Ministries and Les Dames d'Escoffier scholarship fund. After the film (kudos to Strep for nailing Child's signature vocal warble), guests were treated to birthday cake in celebration of Child's birthday (made from Child's recipes, of course!).
