Charlestonians and dancers alike celebrated Spoleto's acclaimed performance of Giselle on Friday, June 11.

Charlestonians couldn’t help but feel as though they had slipped into an alternate universe as they entered the Giselle Party on the expansive lawn at 9 Limehouse Street on Friday, June 11. The warm Lowcountry night was illuminated by twinkle light and garland-adorned trellices and the warm glow of candlelight, giving the evening a truly ethereal feel.

Giselle, one of the most celebrated of classical ballets, debuted at this year’s Spoleto 
on Friday, June 11. Starring renown prima ballerina Nina Ananiashvili and the Tbilisi-based National Ballet of Georgia, the much-awaited staging of Giselle was accompanied by the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and has received rave reviews throughout the Lowcountry.

Giselle dancers could be seen flitting gracefully about the party, chatting with guests around tables or mingling by the truly impressive spreads of delicacies situated throughout the lawn. The mood was festive but relaxed, and as the savory spreads began to give way to a selection of to-die-for-sweets, party-goers could be found lounging at tables beneath the ancient oak tree. The evening slowly mellowed and one-by-one those who attended reluctantly succumbed to their food comas and slipped out into the summer night.
