Festival of Wreaths 2012
The 7th Annual Festival of Wreaths, benefiting MUSC Children's Hospital, took place at the Palmetto Cafe at the Shops of Charleston Place on Thursday, December 13.
Festival of Wreaths is always a relaxing way to ring in the holiday season, and this year’s festivities were no exception. A young crowd of local creatives turned out to the Palmetto Cafe at the Shops at Charleston Place for the occasion, where they were greeted with flutes of bubbly. Guests made their way about the crowded room, noshing on savory bites and checking out this year’s wreaths. This years Festival of Wreaths competition was opened to Charleston’s art community as well as interior designers, and the submissions were incredible. Antlers composed the contemporary piece “Buck Up and Donate” by Adrian Truluck of Parker-Sims Interiors, while inventivEnviroments’ Jacqueline Lawrence created a beautiful wreath of succulents. Ann Chandler Pastore and Hannah Mayo with Haute Design did a fresh take on a more conventional wreath with their “Christmas at the Country House” and “Nature’s Gifts” by Bloom at the Charleston Place exemplified holiday elegance. Partygoers were invited to bid on the wreaths throughout the party, and judges Mary Norton, Ellen McGauley, Chassity Evans, Nathan Durfee, and Braxton Crim took their time deliberating. Finally it was time, and emcee Mickey Bakst of the Charleston Grill took the microphone to announce the winners. Bakst quieted the crowd and was about to announce the winner for Best in Show, when judge Nathan Durfee interjected from the back of the room with, “Do that last!” As the laughter died down, Bakst announced that Most Inspired was awarded to Parker Sims Interiors, Most Holiday Cheer went to J. Rhodes Interiors, and Jacqueline Lawrence would be taking home the title of People’s Choice. The Best in Show award went to Nature’s Gifts by Bloom. The Festival of the Wreaths benefits the MUSC Children’s Hospital, with all proceeds going directly to the hospital. The MUSC Children’s Hospital, was recently named one of the best children’s hospitals in the United States. The MUSC Children's Hospital is dedicated to enhancing the health of children throughout South Carolina and to providing an environment that supports excellence in pediatric patient care, teaching, and research.
