Drum It Up! Charity Event

Operation Home brought back their fabulous charity event at the Red Drum restaurant in Mount Pleasant on Sunday, October 24.

Charleston has been abuzz with charity events and benefit galas, but rarely does one encounter a group of people as deeply passionate and enthusiastic as the crowd that turned out for Operation Home’s annual Drum It Up event.

The party took place at Mount Pleasant hot spot Red Drum, where everyone happily scoured the silent auction and crowded into the dining room to nosh on the delicious creations coming from Chef Ben Berryhill’s kitchen. Servers circulated with plates of pulled pork sandwiches on Texas toast and lamb kabobs with mint and jalapeño coulis, and a number of guests could be spotted lingering by the dessert table.

A sudden rain shower drove everyone inside just in time for a few words from Operation Home executive director Anna Hamilton, who announced that the non-profit is on target to serve 50 families in the Lowcountry this year. A belly dancing performance kicked off the live auction, and the bidding intensified as volunteers and supporters egged each other on.

Operation Home’s mission is to provide safety and handicapped access to our neighbors in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties through the provision of emergency home repairs. Despite the current state of the economy, Operation Home is proud to announce that they have raised over $73,000 this year.
