Charleston Food + Wine Festival Poster Unveiling
Featuring a clever illustration that uses four wine bottle silhouettes and a fork to indicate five hash marks—a nod to the fifth Charleston Food + Wine Festival—the entry designed by graphic artist Jay Fletcher was named winner of the 2010 poster competition during a reception hosted at McCrady's last Wednesday. Chosen from more than 45 entries, Fletcher's witty take earned him $1,000 and a second dose of fame (his work previously graced the 2008 poster). A flock of festival devotees gathered to hear the announcement, and a full-fledged party got underway shortly thereafter.
The affair was another celebration of charcuterie (the ticket sales kick-off party held over the summer was a veritable profusion of all things pork). Trays laden with several varieties of house-made salami were replenished throughout the night, and Marion Sullivan declared the Chef Sean Brock's spread a triumph of tastes. Guests seemed to agree. Even the more esoteric fare—like garden vegetable crudite with beet and almond soil, which many mistook as table garnish, was gobbled up as quickly as it was delivered. Let the countdown to March commence!
