2nd Annual Pink Party
Eco Deco hosted their second Pink Party, a stylish fete benefiting the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, on Thursday, October 11.
It was a colorful crowd that turned out to Eco Deco’s second annual Pink Party, benefiting the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. Fuchsia, rose, blush, and coral were among the hues sported by partygoers, but attendee Tim Dunham took the theme to a new level with his hot pink mustache. “Well, my children have made it turn gray, so I asked a lady at the salon next door to make it turn pink,” Dunham explained. He laughed and added, “It’s supposed to wash out... but I’m playing poker later with the boys, so this could be interesting!”
Guests milled about the specialty home decor store, bidding on silent auction and raffle items - cleverly represented by labeled paint cans - while enjoying a glass of red or white or Icebox’s pink signature cocktail for the evening: a blueberry mint lemonade. Eurasia kept hunger at bay with platters of fried pork meatballs in a mustard glaze and shrimp cocktail, while Tutti Frutti upheld the rosy theme of the evening with their strawberry frozen yogurt.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the talk given by Hollings Cancer Center representative Denise Kepecs and Hollings Cancer Center patient Cindy Suggs emphasizing breast cancer treatment and research in our local community. Sugg’s testimonial was inspiring, strong, heart-wrenching, and remarkably funny. Flanked by her two little girls, Suggs drove home a powerful message about the importance of research, providing resources to the community, accurate diagnosis, and positivity. At the root of maintaining an upbeat attitude, for Suggs, was knowing that her children were negative for the genetic markers specific to the cancer she’s fought. The blood test for Sugg’s children was funded through the Hollings Cancer Center, and events like Eco Deco’s Pink Party.
