Join the Brick House Kitchen family for healthy fare and indulgent desserts

Drivers along Folly Road can hardly miss the barn-red fence painted with a fish leaping into a fry pan below the words Brick House Kitchen. It’s a warm introduction to the circa-1920 farmhouse beyond, from which the Thomas family serves “coastal comfort food.”

Park beneath century-old oaks, then head to the front porch dressed with potted plants, rocking chairs, and community tables. Inside, a hostess leads diners into cozy rooms where health-conscious seafood dishes, pastas, salads, and soups—plus myriad desserts—headline menus that change daily.

“We wanted to create a place where guests feel comfortable dressed for dinner or the beach,” says Crystal Thomas, who opened the restaurant with husband Christopher in April. The transition was natural considering this clan has been in the food business since Christopher’s great-grandmother opened Stella’s Spaghetti downtown in the 1940s. His mom, Chris, and sister, Jennifer, have also owned local eateries, and fans of their long-running AngelFish are happy that both lend their culinary skills to this venture.

Just as every family has its quirks, so does this homey spot: lack of city sewer access means they must serve on eco-friendly disposable plates, and credit cards aren’t accepted. But it’s the tasty fare and comfortable atmosphere that are far more memorable.
