Two editors from the Charleston masthead showcase their publishing prowess

Proper etiquette holds that one should not toot one’s own horn, but some praises prove too special not to share. In October, Charleston society editor Ida Becker made her book debut with the petite Charleston Icons, a beautifully assembled collection of all things good and Holy City, from seersucker suits to Battery benches to courtly manners. Through 100 pages, Ida explores the histories of our city’s classics with smart prose and artfully angled photos.

And this April, green thumbs and flower flunkies alike can look forward to the release of senior editor Melissa Bigner’s Southern Bouquets, an elegant guide celebrating eight garden greats, including daffodils, hydrangeas, zinnias, and greens. Rich with growing basics, fresh ideas, lush photography, stories, and sentiments, the large-format hardback masterfully presents simple yet sophisticated arrangements that you’ll want on display—whether in a vase or on the page—all year round. So while, in the name of good manners, I shouldn’t shout that our team has true talent, these two deserve a loud and proud “toot, toot!”
