A festival-size music venue opens in the Lowcountry

The tiny town of Bowman, near the intersection of interstates 26 and 95, may not seem like an obvious place for a 30,000-person performance venue, but to Stacie Darr White, the president and general manager of Yonder Field, it couldn’t be more perfect. “Five million people live within a two-hour drive,” says the Folly Beach resident. “We’re taking everything amazing from a festival experience and putting it in an amphitheater environment.”

White is drawing on her professional experience—including eight years at Madison Square Garden and a role in planning Bonnaroo—to book a diverse concert schedule of stadium-caliber artists. May 27 brings the first-ever event, dubbed ”Bowman Bound” and featuring Dr. John, Uncle Kracker, and Phillip Phillips on the main stage, plus Edwin McCain, Villanova, and Trae Pierce & The T-Stones on the tailgate stage. And for those who have snagged one of the 2,000 car and tent camping spots, Corey Smith takes the Yonderwood Campground Stage late-night.

Attendees from Charleston will notice the Holy City’s influence in the array of restaurants and food trucks present, as well as the visual work of painter David Boatwright and graphic designer Gil Shuler, the creative minds behind the venue’s artistic design.
