Join the conversation at the Arts Matter Mayoral Summit

”With Mayor Riley leaving office next January, this is a historical time of transition,” says Mike Gibbons, Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts executive director. ”We want to know how the arts will matter in the new administration.”

To find out, the nonprofit that offers support to 70-plus area arts organizations is hosting the Arts Matter Mayoral Summit on Tuesday, June 9, 9-11 a.m. All of the declared mayoral candidates—Ginny Deerin, William Dudley Gregorie, John Tecklenburg, Paul Tinkler, Leon Stavrinakis, and Maurice Washington (at press time)—will gather at downtown’s Woolfe Street Playhouse for the free, open-to-the-public event.

With Gibbons moderating, panelists Josh Silverman, CEO of Jericho Advisors; Keely Enright, artistic director for Woolfe Street Playhouse; and James Braunreuther, fine arts coordinator for Charleston County School District will query them on everything from funding to public art to parking. Have your own question? Submit it at IfYouWere Mayor.com, then attend the summit to get to know those looking to lead our city.
