Making Waves
An exhibit of Charles Williams’ latest oil paintings opens at Robert Lange Studios

Tomorrow is the first Friday of the month, and you know what that means: it’s art walk time! We’re extra excited for September’s installment because it marks the opening of a new exhibit at Robert Lange Studios: “In Thought,” featuring paintings by Charles Williams.

We showcased Williams in September’s Artist Profile section, explaining how a childhood spent exploring the woods of Georgetown with his brothers inspired his love of nature—and of portraying it realistically using oil paint. The 2006 Savannah College of Art and Design graduate, who also completed the revered Hudson River School Fellowship program in New York, has become known for painting local marsh and waterway scenes. But in the midst of some soul-searching at the Folly Beach Pier last year, he was struck by the beauty of the ocean. And just like that, it became the muse for the 25 pieces in “In Thought.”

From intimate looks at waves to more expansive water views, the works represent the sense of renewal that Williams finds in the surf. “My hope is that those who view these paintings will feel the same inspiration that I do when looking at the ocean,” says the artist. Check out his new pieces for yourself this Friday, and start your weekend feeling refreshed and inspired.

“In Thought” opening reception: Friday, September 7, 5-8 p.m. Robert Lange Studios, 2 Queen St. (843) 805-8052, www.robertlangestudios.com
