Hello, Summer!
The new issue of Charleston Weddings hits newsstands just as things heat up around town

written by Melissa Bigner

Humidity got you a little limp? Grab a copy of the new summer issue of Charleston Weddings magazine—or snag your iPad to visit our website —then find a shady spot to chill out. We’ve got ideas aplenty to help you keep your cool while getting wed here in the Holy City. Here are some highlights.

Tons Of Real-Life Weddings
This issue includes 14 real-life weddings, from backyard and beachfront bashes to plantation and historic hall weddings. Check them all out to see how toting parasols, offering chilled water with lime to guests upon arrival, and staging your wedding by the water can really cut the summertime heat.

Play With Pink
Being a Southern publication, we see our fair share of pink-infused weddings. But hold on to your Sunday hats, y’all, what we’re seeing of late ain’t your mama’s pink! As an ode to the sassy color, we feature three pink-inspired weddings that show you how to play with the palette. Be sure to check them out, especially Bold & Bright,” the story of Cagney Elrod and Zack Stein’s Lowndes Grove Plantation wedding by Southern Protocol and Paige Winn Photo. The shot of Cagney’s stunning bouquet from stems won our first-ever “pick the cover” poll on Facebook.

French Accents
We’re pretty sure craft-chic weddings are evolving into French country-styled affairs—and we’ve got three gorgeous weddings to prove it. Basically, the look is all about refined elegance, home décor accents, antique furniture (slightly peeling, thank you), and toned-down, urban-chic fashion. Yes, there’s burlap and Mason jars, but browse the following galleries to see how even those elements are elevated. There’s “Sublime Elegance” shot by Virgil Bunao and designed by Ooh! Events, with its stunning hanging bed and unexpected fashion. Then there’s “An Expat Comes Home” at the South Carolina Society Hall, shot by Angela Stott and styled by Hannah Alexander of WED. Last? Another winner from Ooh!, this one shot by Riverland Studios and staged at Boone Hall’s Cotton Dock, “At Home Down South.”

Fashion For Days
While we love a well-penned novel, we really were into The Great Gatsby movie more for its costumes than anything else. And we’re not alone. Bridal designers went all-out this year to create some of the most stunning beaded, vintage-inspired gowns we’ve seen in ages. Shot at Ashley Hall’s stunning McBee House (where you—yes, you—can get your bridal portrait shot, and where you can wed on campus) by Corbin Gurkin, our story showcasing the looks gives inspiration in spades.
