Get Out Your Frocks & Fascinators!
Check out the spring socials and goings on about town

Written by Melissa Bigner

I’m going to hazard an assumption here. If you subscribe to the Bridal Buzz, more than likely you’re as beside yourself as we are over this Friday. As in Friday's Big Event, when Kate and William say “I do,” or “I doth,” or whatever they say over there at Westminster Abbey when a monarch-to-be takes his bride. To celebrate in due course, I, for one, am having a slumber party with my mom, waking at 4 a.m. to watch the pomp and circumstance play out on her big screen. The dress! The dress! Whatever will Kate wear? It’s killing us.

Ahem. For all of you who can’t or won’t follow suit, or want to play Monday morning quarterback to their nuptials, please join me and Charleston Weddings, plus a slew of fab ladies—and gents—at stems for A Royal Watch & Frock-Tail Party next May 4. Details on it—and other fantastic events this month—follow.

A Royal Watch & Frock-Tail Party
Don your best frock and fascinator—or hat—and come watch Kate and Wills’ wedding screened throughout the chic space at stems, dressed to the nines by the floral stars there along with the gals from Southern Protocol . Sample sweets from Yesumay cookies (shortbread, anyone?), finger sandwiches (curl those pinkies!), and bites from Cru Catering (don’t forget to dab, ladies), while sipping RoyalRowTinis from TheWeddingRow and Ice Box. Get your photo snapped with oh-so-British Charleston Black Cabs thanks to Charlotte Elizabeth Photographer and be sure to enter the CosBar makeover giveaway, too. The brainchild of the women from Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaid , it’s sure to be a blast. Space is limited, so please RSVP to info@maddisonrow. Donations are appreciated, and all proceeds will benefit the Cinderella Project. May 4, 6-9 p.m., 208 Coming St., (843) 720-7979.

Also? Looking for something to wear? Shop for your frock at these stores—Cynthia Rowley, K Morgan, Finicky Filly, Hampden Clothing, House of Sage, Thera M. V2V—mention you’ve RSVPed, and you’ll score a discount. For more information (and more stores), contact info@maddisonrow.

Merger Made in Marriage Heaven
What’s better than a gorgeous gown? A deal on a gorgeous gown! Belle Couture Bridal’s sister store, Fabulous Frocks, has taken over the former’s Church Street space, merging with and absorbing BCB. Showcasing high-end designer gowns that are like new with no visible signs of wear, are less than five years old, and come with “papers” (original receipts proving their lineage and that they first sold for at least $2,000), the shop lives up to its “luxe bridal consignment” tagline times 10. And yes, there are still bridesmaid gowns and accessories. Preview a sampling of the gowns (and see designer names carried) on their super-charming site before heading over to shop for yourself. 100 Church St., (843) 754-1855, FabulousFrocksOfCharleston.com

Sip ’n’ See Some Pretty Stationery
OK, this is a bittersweet listing, because I won’t be in New York Friday May 13th! If you happen to be, join Tara Guérard and the Lettered Olive team in their new office for a Southern-style sip ’n’ see—usually reserved for newborns in lieu of baby showers. The baby in this case are the new stationery lines TLO is debuting, like its Charleston Collection, Private Label by Tara Guerard, and the twentyeleven collection. For more information (or to see the lines if you’re not in the Big Apple) visit TheLetteredOlive.com. May 13, 4-7 p.m., 307th Ave., Ste. 2308, New York, New York.

Also of Note…
South Carolina-born designer Carol Hannah’s New York show had a decidedly Southern-nouveau accent this month thanks to the setting stylings of Charleston’s own Kristin Newman Designs and Gathering—Floral + Event Design. Check out Della MacNicholas' great post on her blog, TheWeddingRow.com, with gorgeous photos from the Holy City’s Gayle Brooker. TheWeddingRow has more terrific news to share…the debut of its sister site in Charlotte; visit WeddingRowCharlotte.com for more great news on all things weddings…Southern weddings, that is! And finally, congrats to local (and New York) photographer Mila Radulovic for putting on the first-ever Charleston Wedding Week…whew, let’s hear it for springtime, ladies and ’maids!
