Indigo Tie-Dye Workshop

Bring kids ages five to 12 to downtown’s Aiken-Rhett House, where Historic Charleston Foundation (HCF) introduces them to Eliza Lucas Pinckney—the local lady who in the 1700s figured out how to make indigo a cash crop. After learning about the process of transforming the plant’s leaves into a thick blue dye, children can tie-dye a provided T-shirt, plus another small item or two (such as a headband, socks, or a pillowcase) brought from home. Hey HCF, how about a session for grown-ups too? Aiken-Rhett House, 48 Elizabeth St. Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon. $15. www.historiccharleston.org
