Style Q & A: Pauline Sokol Nakios

Style Q & A: Pauline Sokol Nakios
September 2017

Raised in Charleston (her parents owned Morris Sokol Furniture on King Street), Nakios now runs her women’s clothing lines, Lilla P and Leo & Sage, from a New York City home base

Q What’s new for Lilla P and Leo & Sage?
A
The fall collections for both are available, incorporating trends such as metallic, embroidery, and texture (velvet, satin, and jacquard patterns, for example). Our clothing is never overly trendy, however. I want people to get a great deal of wear out of each garment.

Q Name your earliest style influencer.
A
Definitely my mother, followed by Madonna in the ’80s (it’s safe to say I left the latter behind in the ’80s).

Q Favorite handbag?
A
I’m coveting Gabriela Hearst’s “Nina.” The construction and hardware are beautiful, and the shape is modern and classic at the same time.

Q What’s a must-do when you’re in Charleston?
A
I love visiting friends on Sullivan’s Island. It is so nice to go back to the spot where my family and I spent summers during my childhood. And we always try to squeeze in a dinner at FIG downtown.

Q Do you have a fall “uniform”?
A
Denim and a black or gray sweater. With the perfect shoe, you can never go wrong. Frame is my favorite denim brand right now; I love their “Rigid Re-Release Le Original.”

Q Do you have a staple jewelry piece?
A
Surprisingly, I am not much of a jewelry person. I love my simple diamond studs and ring and will sometimes throw on a statement bracelet by Gogo Jewelry or little gold cuffs.

Q Go-to candle for the cool months?
A
Diptyque’s Feu de Bois; reminiscent of a campfire, it fills the room with an incredibly familiar, natural scent.
