For months, Coastal Coffee Roasters posted Facebook pics of patrons at its coffee shop, the ”C,” posing with local April Aldrich’s painting of Bill Murray in a ”Bring Bill to Summerville” effort. In November, they auctioned off the piece, with proceeds slated for a charity they hope Murray will select.
And that pretty well exemplifies the sense of fun you’ll find at this business run by Jacki and Brad Mallett. They roast their own beans—selling them in the shop, online, and at farmers markets—while serving food and hosting concerts, poetry events, even yoga. It’s all part of an effort to “promote a larger sense of community,” says Jacki.
