One-Room Revamp Challenge Homeowner Runner-Up: Evita Smith, West Ashley

Before:

"Since we finished this room, we find ourselves staying at the table long after the plates are cleared,” says Charleston native Evita Smith. “That’s when you know you have a space that works.” To get there, she started with a new paint color on the walls (“Wasabi” by Valspar) that perfectly suited drapery panels she already had. From there, Evita turned to heirlooms she’d collected through the years. “This made the project almost effortless,” she adds. “The other elements just fell into place.”

What She Did:
1. Framed the window with a single botanical-print panel cut in half, serged, and hemmed.
2. Invested in shelving to display collections of glass floats, South American silver, and framed art.
3. Switched out iron patio seating for cushioned wood folding chairs.
4. Filled in with family heirlooms like 1940s side tables crafted by Evita’s uncle and framed Panamanian watercolor prints.
