Model FAQ

Q: What qualifications must applicants possess in order to apply for the Model Search as well as the Rock the Runway Competition?

A: There are no age restrictions or required experience for the Model Search or the Rock the Runway 2011 Competition. Applicants under the age of 18 must have parental/guardian permission to apply.  Females must be at least 5’7” and males must be at least 5’10” to qualify and height will be confirmed at the casting call.

Q: What is the deadline for submitting my application?

A: Models are required to submit online applications no later than October 15, 2010 to qualify for the Rock the Runway Competition.  Applications submitted following this date will not qualify for the competition, but will be considered for a model casting.

Q: If I do not submit my application by October 15, 2010, am I still eligible to attend a casting call?

A: To secure an audition you MUST submit a model application by October 15, 2010. We will hold a one-hour open casting call in each city from 3pm – 4pm. However, this does not guarantee you will be seen. If an application was not submitted, please note the height requirement for all CFW 2011 models.  The online application for models casting in Atlanta has been extended to November 5, 2010.

TIP: We anticipate a high volume of models and recommend submitting your model application to secure an audition time.

Q: If I am selected for a casting call, when/how will I be notified?

A: All applicants will be informed via email and/or phone by October 18, 2010 if they have been selected to attend a casting call.  The email confirmation will include: the exact location of casting call, the date of casting call, and an assigned time block. Date and time block are at the discretion of CFW and based on your first and second choice selection on the application.  Models that apply for the Atlanta casting will be notified via email and/or phone by November 10, 2010 if selected to attend a casting call.

TIP: Mark your calendar in advance based on your selection on the application to ensure your availability for a casting.

Q: What should I bring to the casting call?

A: All models are required to bring information listed in the casting call invitation including the casting date, time block and assigned model cast number.

TIP: Wait times could be long so it is recommended you bring something to read and bottled water.

Q: What do I need to wear to the casting call?

A: Dress is casual.  Women should wear form-fitted clothing, little to no makeup, with hair pulled back and you MUST have heels to walk in.  Men should wear fitted pants and a fitted
t-shirt, with hair brushed away from the face.

TIP: Women will not be seen without heels and layers of clothing will NOT be allowed in the audition room.

Q: If selected for the model book, when/how will I be chosen to walk in a runway show?

A: Selection in the model book does not guarantee participation in a runway show.  Models selected for the 2011 CFW model book will be presented to all Runway Participants and designers.

Runway Participants will then select up to thirty (30) models for an in-store casting.  All in-store castings will take place February 21- 26, 2011. In-store casting date and time are at the discretion of CFW and each Runway Participant.  Following the casting, each Runway Participant will then select up to twenty (20) models to appear in their runway show presentation, as well as two (2) alternate models.

Emerging Designer Semifinalists will select up to twenty (20) models for a casting and fitting.  Both will take place on Friday, January 7th and Sunday, January 9, 2011.  Date and time are at CFW and the designer’s sole discretion.  The exact location will be announced at a later date.

Q: Once cast for a runway show, what time commitment requirements will there be?

A: You will be required to attend in-store fittings.  If you are cast in more than one show, you will be required to attend fittings for each store.  Fittings will take place Monday, February 28th through Friday, March 11, 2011. All fitting dates and times are each Runway Participant’s sole discretion.

Each model is required to attend three (3) rehearsals.  Mandatory model rehearsal dates are Saturday, January 8, 2011at the Embassy Suites Charleston Historic District, 337 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401, and Monday, March 21, 2011 at the CFW tents in Marion Square.  Models are also required to attend an additional rehearsal; either Saturday, January 15, 2011 or Saturday, February 19, 2011, both held at the Embassy Suites Charleston Historic District, 337 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.  Models not in attendance at both mandatory rehearsals and the additional rehearsal of their choice will immediately be disqualified from participating in the Rock the Runway Competition.

Finalists for the 2011 Rock the Runway Model Competition will be notified in March of 2011. During the week of Charleston Fashion Week® models are required to be at the tents as early as 3 pm, Tuesday, March 22nd through Saturday, March 26th for evening runway presentations and as early as 7am on Saturday, March 26th for the Spring Bridal Show.

Q: What is the selection process to compete in the Rock the Runway competition?

A: Only models booked for a runway show will be eligible for the model competition.  This does not guarantee that you will advance as a semifinalist or finalist.  Each Runway Participant will select their top three (3) female models and one (1) male model for entry into the competition based upon appearance, poise, and runway walk during in-store castings. These models will then be narrowed down to thirty (30) semifinalists as determined by our Runway Panel of experts. Based on the performance of the semi-finalists during the course of CFW rehearsals, and fittings, the Runway Panel will select a group of ten (10) female and ten (10) male finalists to compete in the 2011 Rock the Runway Model Competition on Saturday 26, 2011 at the CFW Fashion Finale.

Q: If I am a model chosen to participate in a runway show presentation, will travel to Charleston and hotel accommodations be provided?

A: If you are based outside the Charleston, SC area, you are responsible for your own travel to/from Charleston. Once here, Charleston Fashion Week® will provide lodging for out-of-town models the evening of Monday, March 21, 2011 plus each night you are selected for a runway show presentation.

Q: How many Charleston Fashion Week® attendees will be viewing my runway walk?
