Race to New York
Charleston magazine style director Ayoka Lucas competes for a chance to co-host New York Fashion Week with FashionNewsLive
written by Madison Jill Miller
Ayoka Lucas, the creative force behind Charleston Fashion Week® and the fashion pages of Charleston magazine, has discovered yet another opportunity to represent our oh-so-stylish city, this time as a behind-the-scenes reporter at New York Fashion Week. For more than eight years, Lucas has played a huge part in securing national recognition for our local fashion community, and now she needs our support.
FashionIndie and FashionNewsLive have launched a contest looking for the next fashion spokesperson. Together, they will give two aspiring fashion journalists a style makeover, jewelry from Breil, and an opportunity to co-host alongside FNL’s Rocco Leo Gaglioti, interviewing designers and reporting on the latest trends from the Spring/Summer 2012 runways shows.
This summer, Lucas submitted a video with clips from her “Behind the Style” vlog at Charleston Fashion Week® 2011, and she currently ranks in the top 50. “Contests provide great opportunities for aspiring talent,” she says. “Although I’m more accustomed to being on the judging end, I realized that this contest is all about co-hosting, which is a large part of what I already do. I usually attend New York Fashion Week, so it just seemed like a natural next step.”
To help Lucas make her mark on the national fashion map, check out her video submission and support her with your vote. The contest ends August 19.
