Event Details

It may come as a surprise, but Japonisme—the influence of Japanese culture and aesthetic on European and North American art—has had a large influence on Charleston creatives. In “The Great Wave,” The Gibbes Rotunda Galleries showcase this influence on the artists of the Charleston Renaissance period. Works from Read-Simms Collection are juxtaposed against pieces by Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, Anna Heyward Taylor, and Antoinette Guerard Rhett.  Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm & Sunday, 1-5pm. $9; $7 senior/student/military; $5 ages six-12. Free for child under six. (843)722-2706, www.gibbesmuseum.org
