Charleston Chamber Music Classic Kids‘ Concerts: MERCEDES & THE CHOCOLATE PILOT

Chamber Music Charleston brings Margot Theis Raven‘s renowned children’s book to life with a string quartet and interactive songs, telling the true story of a seven-year-old girl living in West Germany during the Berlin Airlift. In 1948, the Soviet Union blockaded all ground routes to and from West Berlin, leaving its residents without food and essential supplies. In response, American and British pilots flew in necessities, and among these heroes was Lt. Gail S. Halvorsen, who earned the nickname of the “Chocolate Pilot“ by bringing candy to the German children. Grab a seat at this incredible performance and learn about one of history’s most interesting anecdotes. The Charleston Museum Auditorium, 360 Meeting St. Saturday, 1pm. $12; $6 ages four-16; free for child under four.
