CONVERSATIONS WITH A CURATOR: THE OLIGOCENE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Millions of years ago, the Holy City was buried beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Today, fossils of prehistoric marine fauna, such as fish, reptiles, mammals, and birds can be found throughout the Lowcountry. The Charleston Museum has one of the most distinguished collections of Oligocene whales on the planet, as well as the world’s largest flying bird, the Pelagornis sandersi, and the giant Lowcountry crocodile, Gavialosuchus carolinensis. This conversation serves as an educational opportunity for students and adults alike. The Charleston Museum, 360 Meeting St. Friday, 10:30-11:30am. Free with admission: $25-$5.
