Even Mozart himself made an appearance at the Chamber Music Charleston Gala (CMC). Complete with tights and a powdered wig, the gentleman and his lady Constanze welcomed partygoers to The Mozart Party, the CMC’s second annual gala, and set the tone what was to be an elegant, whimsical fete in the beautiful gardens of the historic Thomas Bennett House.

Though it was a formal affair and guests had certainly dressed to impress, the atmosphere was lighthearted and joyous. Everyone seemed to relish the crisp, early fall weather, and the courtyard was abuzz with conversation and laughter as revelers enjoyed wine from Maverick Southern Kitchens and noshed on gourmet savory bites before studiously pouring over the silent auction items.

As the cocktail hour drew to a close, people made their way into the tent on the side lawn for the highlight of the evening: a concert featuring Mozart Flute Quartet No. 4 and Mendelssohn String Quintet No. 2. The musicians were greeted with enthusiastic response, which was followed by absolute silence as guests eagerly anticipated what was to come. It was a fabulous performance and the audience delivered a standing ovation.

A live auction marked the second half of the evening, and guests bid fiercely on a number of enticing items before making their way back to the main house for wine and sweet bites.

The Mozart Party was the second event in the Chamber Music Charleston’s Mozart in the South Festival and was the second annual gala benefiting CMC. Chamber Music Charleston is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of classical music through chamber music performances and educational programs of high artistic quality performed by musicians of the Lowcountry.
