On Saturday, I was more than happy to attend the 18th annual Chocolate Affair at the Holliday Alumni Center at The Citadel. This event is all things chocolate and right up my alley. Yes, I am an addict. My name is Katie Kern, and I am a chocoholic. For me, this event could go one of two ways: I could go in, nibble on a few pieces of chocolate and exit stage left, or I could go all out and indulge like it’s no tomorrow. Thankfully, I ended up somewhere in the middle.
With a sea of chocolate was positioned in the middle of the room, the party truly was a chocolate lovers dream. I didn’t know where to start so I just made a mad dash for an uncut double-chocolate cake prepared by Oak Steakhouse. And yes, it was amazing. Then I headed over to the chocolate-covered fruit station, which was a big hit. People must think that having fruit just dipped in chocolate is somehow low fat (works for me).
The Who’s Who of Charleston came out to support this great organization. Mayor Joe Riley and Jim Frye took a moment for a photo op, and executive director Jane Riley was all smiles, happy that the community came out in the shivering cold to attend the event.
All of the desserts were donated by Charleston’s finest restaurants and specialty shops to raise funds that champions all youth to stay in school by connecting the best community resources with the needs of students, their families and schools.
