A night dedicated to "delectable indulgences"—the perfect sponsorship opportunity for a dentistry practice—took place last Saturday when Communities in Schools hosted its annual Chocolate Affair gala. The Citadel's Holliday Alumni Center smelled like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, an olfactory sensation of epically sweet proportions. Although tuna wantons, carving stations, and a sweet potato "sundae" bar tempered the sugary theme of the night, the piece de resistance was a buffet table laden with a dizzying array of chocolate in all forms—eclairs, cakes, truffles, bon bons, fudge, and more (but where were the cupcakes?).

Guests twittered like greedy children on Christmas morning as they rounded the table-o-chocolate. Towers of treats threatened to topple many a guest's plate, and some of the smaller dishes disappeared in a flash. A rush of excitement swept through the crowd when a plate of Sweet Teeth's insanely delicious salty dark chocolate truffles appeared alongside the crepe cake supplied by Holy City Chocolate. In fact, the buzz grew over the course of the night as guests consumed a copious amount of sugar-sugar-sugar! Only crumbs remained by the end of the gala.

The treats were donated by an extensive group of generous restaurants and chocolatiers including, 82 Queen, Anson, Ashley Bakery, Blu, Charleston Crepe Company, Chrisophe Artisan Chocolatier, Circa 1886, Edible Arrangements, Grill 225, High Thyme, Holy City Chocolate, Jim 'n Nicks, Kaminsky's, Liberty Bakery, McCrady's, Pampered Palate, Rue de Jean, Saffron, Sunfire Grill & Bistro, Sweet Teeth, The Cake Stand, The Library at Vendue, Red Drum, The Sanctuary, and Three Birds Cafe.
