Charleston got a taste of the sweet life at The 20th Chocolate Affair. The decadent fete was held at the Charleston Marriot and helped raise money for Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area Inc. Guests of all ages and from all walks of life gathered outside the main dining hall, where they enjoyed chocolate martinis, cocktails, and savory bites while surveying the silent auction.  

Many among the crowd had attended in years past and were some of the first to rush through the doors as the dining hall was opened. While some partygoers were distracted by the pasta bar or the awesome live music, the diehard chocoholics (myself included) made a mad dash for the extensive dessert spread. One look at the towering platters of intricately decorated, tantalizing desserts, and one felt they had died and gone to heaven.

This year’s judges awarded the esteemed title of Most Creative Chocolate Dessert to Circa 1886 while Ansons took home the title of Best Tasting, but the competition was steep. Guests lingered around the dessert tables throughout the event, carrying off towering plates of white chocolate mousse, red velvet cake, chocolate tortes, and a vast variety of truffles.

The band kept the party going as everyone’s food coma began to set in, and many couples took to the dance floor to bust a move before the start of the live auction. Overall, the night was a fabulous success.

The Chocolate Affair benefits Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area Inc., a nonprofit organization that surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
