The March of Dimes is a cause that touches almost everyone on a personal level, which was evident by the large crowd that turned out to support this year’s Signature Chefs Dinner and Auction. 

The black-tie optional fete garnered an array of attire, but the mood was light and festive as partygoers filled the Crystal Ballroom at the Charleston Marriott. Guests mingled and posed for photographers before grabbing a glass of wine and checking out the plethora of tasty options.

It was a foodie’s fantasy. Table after table of delicious savory bites filled the ballroom and lobby, with snacks from the likes of Virginia’s on King, Lowcountry Eats, Poogan’s Porch, Relish, Bamboo, and Hall’s Chophouse, among many others. Guests were hard pressed to pick a favorite dish, but several individuals could be spotted sneaking seconds from Hall’s Chophouse and people raved about Blu’s crispy pork belly with fennel and gala apple slaw, and sorghum baked field peas. 

Guests were invited to take their seats as the live auction prepared to gear up, but first everyone quieted down to be welcomed by Terry Hoss. Hoss ended her warm welcome with the emotional words, “From a heathy baby’s mom, thank you from the bottom of my heart, and please open your checkbooks.” The lights dimmed, and this year’s testimonial video from the Pingston family began to play. The feature detailed the family’s trials and triumphs after their son was born at 31 weeks, and there was hardly a dry eye in the room as the lights came up. Partygoers did indeed open their checkbooks for the live auction, and the Signature Chefs Auction was once again quite a success.

March of Dimes is dedicated to preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded by President Franklin Roosevelt, March of Dimes has led the way to discover the genetic causes of birth defects, to promote newborn screening, and to educate medical professionals and the public about best practices for healthy pregnancy.
