The Gimme Shelter event was the perfect, laid-back Thursday evening, a wonderful treat for the guests who braved the rain in support of Operation Home.

The Cuban-themed affair won the crowd over with some absolutely amazing food from Home Team BBQ: pit-master Aaron Siegel’s delicious jerk-rubbed pork with rum BBQ sauce, miniature Cuban sandwiches, pineapple spicy rice, and savory black beans. Nearly everyone took a second trip to the buffet table, pausing first to place bids in the silent auction or grab a drink from the bar. Several signature drinks helped keep the night festive, and the Mango Mojito and Rum Painkiller were a huge hit.

After eating and grabbing cocktails, partygoers snagged a seat to enjoy the beautiful live music by Duda Lucena or moseyed into the Eye Level Art courtyard for cigars under the tented “Havana Lounge”. The lounge featured posh sofas where everyone was invited to watch an expert hand-roll cigars in the authentic Cuban style before savoring a smoke.

It was a wonderful, relaxing night benefiting an important cause, Operation Home. Operation Home strives to help people remain in their residences by increasing safety and accessibility. The organization, which has served hundreds of Lowcountry homes, coordinates critical home repairs and provides air conditioners during the summer months and heaters in the winter for low-income residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties.
