If you attended Donna and Randy Friedman’s Spoleto VIP reception on Sunday, May 29, you were privy to a taste of Southern hospitality at its very best. The Friedmans welcomed Spoleto VIPs into their stunning Mt. Pleasant home for a chance to relax, mingle, and enjoy a cocktail before the frenetic schedule of performances and parties truly got underway.
Guests valet-parked their cars before making their way down a gorgeous drive to the main house. After being greeted with a signature cocktail (to start the reception off right!), partygoers stepped into the side yard where they received a warm welcome from the Friedmans. One couldn’t help being awed by the side yard’s incredible view of the Charleston harbor, and the grass was punctuated with patio furniture to encourage guests to relax and take it all in.
The backyard offered equally captivating views, and revelers fluctuated between catching up poolside and lingering around the appetizer stations. Chefs from Caviar and Bananas seared and plated scallops at one end of the porch while a heavily sweating ice sculpture featured three types of delicious gazpacho and servers circulated with a never-ending selection of tantalizing canapés.
Though the backyard boasted a strong, steady breeze, the tented side yard’s spread of savory bites and incredible overlook continued to draw guests. “It’s like something out of a dream,” one individual mused, mesmerized by the stunning scenery.
It was a beautiful, luxurious afternoon of food, drink, and great conversation. As to be expected, the majority of the chatter centered around various Spoleto performances and parties, and it seems this year’s festival is off to a fabulous start.
