Ah, oysters. The salty darling of the casual charity party. Best when paired with a squeeze of lemon and a side of sweater weather. For many, the roast hosted every October by the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center, which took place on Thursday night at the Visitor Center Bus Shed, marks open season for the convergence of bivalves and benevolence.

Although the mercury hovered around 80 degrees—and spiked higher with each delivery of steaming shells—a record number of people showed up to support the victims' advocacy organization, shuck-n-slurp their way through bushel after bushel, and shag to the sounds of Triple Lindy.

Held at sundry spot over the years, including Gold Bug Island and the I'On Creek Club—both lovely locales, the Bus Shed is a home run and will hopefully become the permanent home for this fun event.
