Darkness to Light’s annual Circle of Light Gala is one of the most anticipated black tie events of the season, and this year’s Parisian-themed fete did not disappoint. Flickering luminaries lined the blockaded street leading to the Memminger Auditorium, where partygoers mingled under tents over craft cocktails.

Partygoers stepped out in their chicest formalwear, furs, boas, and tailored coats, but the fall chill made for a short cocktail hour. Theatre Marvelosa frolicked and pranced about the guests as they made their way inside, adding a colorful touch to the party.

After checking their coats, those who attended made their way to the main dining room. The auditorium had been decked out with chandeliers, elaborate table settings, and a plethora of candles, and a freestanding stage was positioned in the center of the room.

Guests found their seats as a performer with Aloft Circus Acts took to the stage, performing elaborate acrobatic feats on a chair suspended from the ceiling. Amidst the oohs and aahs, one guest was overheard to mutter, “I think she works out...” The entertainment was not over, however, and soon another performer treated the audience to some amazing feats executed from fabric suspended from the ceiling.

Then partygoers were officially welcomed and treated to a delicious three-course meal from one of Charleston’s finest chefs and live auction, after which Darkness to Light President Jolie Logan and Board Chair Suzanne Hardie presented champion figure skater Scott Hamilton with the 2012 Voice of Courage Award.

Then partygoers collected their coats and headed out into the brisk evening air, most of them eagerly heading for the official after party.

Circle of Light is the annual gala for Darkness to Light, an organization that works to end childhood sexual abuse through prevention, awareness, and education. Darkness to Light (D2L) asserts that if sexual abuse can be prevented, it can be stopped, and the non-profit works to help adults recognize the signs of abuse and react responsibly.
