The bravado was so thick, it could have been sliced with a sand wedge at the Bulls Bay clubhouse on Tuesday night. After a long day of golf amid the cold drizzle that has enveloped the Lowcountry over the past two weeks, participants giddily retreated indoors, where cocktails and coffee fueled the good-natured ribbing (several teams posted impressive sub-par scores). Hosted by Lisa and Joe Rice, the sixth annual Bulls Bay benefit golf tournament (with proceeds going to the MUSC Children's Hospital fund) saw familiar and new faces alike, including one famous face: Country Music Association's 2009 New Artist of the Year—Darius Rucker.

Singing "All I Want," which he dedicated to pal Tiger Woods, Rucker regaled the dinner crowd with a short acoustic set punctuated by humorous anecdotes and a few surprise auction items. A guitar autographed by Taylor Swift fetched several thousand dollars, but the opportunity to appear in Rucker's next music video was the standout prize of the night. Bidding was fierce and topped out at $20,000. The gentleman who purchased the auction lot donated it to Rachel Edwards, the young two-time cancer survivor who took to the stage to thank the day's participants for their support of the Children's Hospital. Rachel has spent 100 nights in the oncology ward, but thanks to such fundraising efforts, the hospital is able to attract outstanding doctors and researchers who are effectively saving her life—and the lives of many bright, energetic kids like Rachel. You may recall seeing Rachel's luminous face back in March, when she was serenaded by Wayne Newton during Catwalk for Kids (http://tinyurl.com/ybyj3mp).

If ordering holiday cards is still on your "to do" list, please consider purchasing this year's collection of original cards designed by young patients of the Children's Hospital.
