Legendary confidence man turned FBI security consultant Frank Abagnale, Jr. captivated Charlestonians during a dinner benefiting the MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund on Thursday, October 7. Those arriving at the Memminger Auditorium were greeted with flutes of Prosecco and hors d'oeurves before being ushered down to the main dining area, where Abagnale could be found mingling with and charming guests.
As the cocktail hour drew to a close, everyone made their way to their assigned tables for a delicious three-course meal by Charleston Place. As plates of roast chicken stuffed with wild mushrooms were replaced by decadent caramel macadamia cake or chocolate ganache, 103.5 Morning Crew’s T.J. Phillips took the stage to introduce the night’s guest of honor.
Abagnale spoke about the incredible events of his life as a confidence man and forger, his transition from internationally wanted criminal to FBI consultant, Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of his life in Catch Me If You Can, and the morals to be drawn from his story. After discussing his remorse and new life path, Abagnale ended his speech by reminding his mesmerized audience of the importance of family. The evening drew to a close with a standing ovation for Abagnale and his message.
