Chucktown Showdown

Pro surfer Israel Paskowitz—the son of legendary surfer Doc Paskowitz—and his wife, Danielle, began Surfers Healing after realizing how much the sport calmed their autistic son. The idea was to create camps to teach other children with autism how to ride the waves. It‘s now a nationwide organization, and you can lend support during the fifth annual Chucktown Showdown—a paddleboard race with four- and nine-mile courses, as well as a one-mile course for kids ages 12 and under. Spectators can cheer on the paddlers from the shores of Brittlebank Park while listening to live music and enjoying a cold one from the pop-up beer garden. Afterwards, the party continues at Mex1 Cantina on Sullivan‘s Island. Brittlebank Park, 176 Lockwood Blvd. Saturday, 8am-3pm. $90-$10; free for spectator. (415)766-7223,
