Sweet Dreams: Cheryl and Griffith Day have gained quite a following for their red velvet cupcakes, as well as old-world breads, scones, and puddings, at Back in the Day Bakery on Bull Street.
Tea Time: More than a dozen types of tea are steeped at the Gryphon Tea Room, housed in an early 1900s apothecary on Bull Street.
Nearby houses (right) are bedecked with ornate ironwork and stairs, many with ground-level apartments.

Holy Twin City!: Established in 1733, the port city was once the capital of Georgia and has a huge historic district set in an orderly grid of blocks and squares. Sights include many statues and fountains and the white-spired Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist at 22 East Harris Street.

Art Infused: Founded in 1978, Savannah College of Art and Design’s (SCAD) influence is omnipresent, with galleries, classrooms, and studios throughout the city.

Local 11 Ten
What’s Old is New Again: Chef William Rodgers at Local 11 Ten says he favors comfort foods, including a pan-seared beef dish served with root vegetables and fresh herbs.

To Market, To Market: In the basement of the Paris Market & Brocante are myriad antiques, new furniture, lighting, and housewares, from Parisian linens to silver tableware. The popular store is on a busy corner in the West Broughton Street shopping district.
